Five years later, she went on to work in the Sheriff's Department as the Department merged into the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. She was also promoted to Senior Deputy in the early 90s, and was hired to work in the Court Services Division; when she was at Court Services Division, she supervised personnel and courthouse operations.
Following that, Sonia spent her next six years at the Beverly Hills Courthouse supervising security planning and implementation for high profile cases like trials of actress Winona Ryder and Courtney Love.
After serving the police force for nearly twenty years, the real deputy made a career change and joined the entertainment industry.

She got recognized as a Hollywood Bailiff when producers of the Judge Joe Brown Court Show noticed her and offered her the position of bailiff on the CBS syndicated show. She was well-received in the role of Madam Sonia and remained on the JJB show for the next seven years until the show ended in 2013.
