Steph McGovern is an award-winning British journalist, who is popularly known as the main business presenter for BBC Breakfast.

The openly lesbian journalist sometimes co-hosts the whole program. Her work as a presenter has made her a very well-known personality among the public as she has achieved an appreciable height of success in the journalism field.

Steph went to Kader Primary School before attending Macmillan Academy. At the age of 19, Steph was awarded 'Young Engineer for Britain,' after saving Black & Decker's £150,000 a year by helping to improve production techniques.

Standing at the tall height of 5 feet 9 inches (1.79 meters), Steph attended University College London and studied science communication and policy in the Department of Science and Technology Studies.

Steph first worked for the BBC's Tomorrow’s World Programme and went on to become a part-time researcher in current affairs while she pursuing her study. 

After that, she went on to become the main producer for daily financial news on the Today program of Radio 4. Later, she became the lead producer of business news on the BBC's One, Six and Ten O'Clock news bulletins, alongside the business editor, Robert Peston. 

In 2010, Steph started presenting for BBC Radio 5 Live, which moved to Salford in 2011. In 2012, she made her debut presenting BBC Breakfast alongside Roger Johnson.

Steph also became a host of the Pocket Money Pitch for CBBC in 2016The same year, she started presenting BBC One's Shop Well for Less? alongside Alex Jones. 

Later, Steph joined the BBC Watchdog presenting team from autumn 2016, where Babita Sharma also worked as a news anchor. She also co-presented Can Britain Have a Pay Rise? for BBC Two with James O'Brien.

Steph McGovern revealed The Sunday Times on March 2018 that the corporation has a problem with the class, and that posh presenters earn more than her.

She disclosed that there were lots of women, who do similar work like her but are paid a lot more. Gushing about salary, she hinted that she had only made it to a six-figure. She added, she would have earned more money if she had a posh accent instead of pronouncing north-east twang.

Steph also said the BBC should do more to encourage working-class people into broadcasting.

Later, addressing the gender pay inequalities, the BBC cut the salaries of some of the high ranking BBC TV presenters.
