Matt started his broadcasting career at WJFW-TV in Wausau, Wisc. as station’s primary Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers reporter the from 2001 to 2002 while Ainsley Earhardt also served as the reporter for WLTX- News 19.

From 2003 to 2005, he was the sports host and reporter at KSWO-TV. During the time he provided live coverage from the 2003 and 2004 Big 12 championship and BCS National Championship games.

After that, he served as sports anchor and reporter for WLTX-TV (2005 to 2008), where he anchored Friday to Monday sportscasts, hosted the weekly Saturday Night Blitz and Gamecock Extra college football shows, and even provided live coverage from the 2005 Independence Bowl and 2006 Liberty Bowl.

Before joining ESPN in 2013, Matt also served as a reporter at KXAS, NBC5 in Dallas (2008-2013),  where he anchored live coverage of the Rangers, Cowboys, and Mavericks, and was recognized with the five Lonestar Emmy Awards, including Sports Reporter and Sportscast, 2010 national and regional RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Award, and the “Salute to Excellence” NABJ Award.

Apart from that, Barrie also gained valuable experience as a sports reporter working in radio and television in Columbia.
