She was born on February 5, 1969, in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. Wendy was given up for adoption by her biological just five days after her birth. She was then adopted by James Dean Burch who is a purchasing manager for a manufacturing company, and Carol Ann who is a homemaker and part-time ‘lunch lady’ at a local school cafeteria.
Burch attended public schools in Alta View Elementary, Eastmont Middle School, and Alta High School in Sandy, Utah. She was in a varsity squad in her school. In 1986 her varsity squad competed in the National Cheerleaders Association Championships and was ranked as top 10 finalist. Wendy has two older siblings named Carla Jean Law and Stephen Douglas Burch in her family.

Burch graduated in 1990 from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism. Burch’s began her career in television on March 15th, 1989. She was hired as an assignment editor for KSL, the then she worked for CBS affiliate in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Burch was hired by KIEM, the NBC affiliate after three months of graduating from BYU with her bachelor’s degree in Communications. Besides her anchoring duties; she reported, shot her video, produced and edited the evening newscast and also was the weather person. After three months she was promoted to News Director and, at the age of 22 and she became the youngest television News Director in the country.
Burch is also a professional media trainer to some of the world’s top athletes as well. In 2005, she founded BIG Crowd Communications which is a company designed specifically to provide media training to sports executives and elite athletes. She’s consulted with world championship teams such as the Boston Celtics and LA Lakers. She has also worked personally with professional athletes like Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, and Kobe Bryant.
