Mike Wankum's Biography
Mike, also known as 'Hardy New Englander,' grew up on a farm in Iowa, U.S. state. Hailing from a family of farmers, he got acquainted with the effects of weather since his very childhood.
His whole family was into farming. So, going crops was the only way to feed their tummy. But, the yielding of the crops used to be hampered by various weather conditions. For instance, his parent's barn was destroyed by a tornado, large hail stripped their crops bare, and during winter, several feet tall snow drifted which made it difficult to grow crops.
Facing different weather conditions, Mike grew appreciating the weather. And, he learned to forecast the weather not only by hobby but by his family's necessity.
Eventually, he ended up graduating from Briar Cliff University. Then, he worked on his Masters in Atmospheric Science at Creighton University, in the heart of Tornado Alley. He also became a member of the American Meteorologist Society and holds the Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation.
Aside from forecasting weather, Mike is fascinated to riding dirt bikes with his brother. They used to even race together in their early days.
