Justin's parents didn't have a clean history. His father, O.J., born on 9 July 1947 in San Francisco, California is a former football player. Before marrying his mother, his father was married to Marguerite Whitley until 1979. With her, he had three children, Arnelle, Jason, and Aaren. While O.J. was still married, he met Nicole Brown, who was working as a waitress at the nightclub, The Daisy. They eventually started dating, and later O.J. divorced with his wife; he married Nicole in 1985. With Nicole, O.J. has two kids, Sydney and Justin. However, the marriage didn't see a good end as Nicole filed for divorce in 1992 when things got complicated with her husband.
Father Acquitted of Murder
When Justin was only five years of age, asleep in his room in Los Angeles, his mother, Nicole and her friend, Ronald Goldman brutally were murdered on 12 June 1994. Days later after the murder, his father O.J. was charged with the killings. After Justin's father was arrested, he and his sister were taken in by his maternal grandparents Juditha Anna Brown and Louis Hezekiel Brown. Their aunts, Denise Brown and Tanya Brown helped Justin and Sydney to grow up, maintaining their relationship and keeping the truth about his mother away from them.
After an eight-month-long trial, O.J. was acquitted of the murders when the jury rendered a 'not guilty' verdict. Despite the objections of the Brown family, O.J. got the full custody of Justin and his siblings.
The family of the murdered victims filed a civil suit against O.J., which led a civil court to award $33.5 million for the wrongful deaths. The Brown family got $25 million while the Goldman family got $8.5 million.
However, in 2007, Justin's father was arrested and charged with the felonies of armed robbery and kidnapping. He was sentenced to 33 years in prison, with a minimum of nine years without parole. After nine years of serving his sentence at the Lovelock Correctional Center, O.J. was released from the prison in October 2017 following the grant of parole in July 2017.
