He got married for the first time in his early twenties. Somewhere around the time, after eight years of being sober and having overcome serious alcohol, and other drug addiction, Andy again started using it.

Reminiscing the old times, he says– "I'm grateful every day that I didn't die of an overdose."

During an interview with VARIETY on 5th November 2019, he recalled how he had taken his baby daughter, Erin, in a cab in the middle of the night to "score" drugs while the mother of the baby was out of town. He termed the incident as one of his "lowest points."

Later, after a year of living to his commitments in a sober home, he once and for all came clean off the addiction.

Andy is father to his three children: Erin, 23, and 12-year-old twins, Ethan and Ryan (age, as of 5th November 2019).

He is a son of Danièle and Jules Lassner. Danièle, Andy's father, met Jules when he walked into a New York publishing house rummaging for books on politics in South America. There a young assistant helped him, who happened to be Andy's mother, Danièle Gorlin. They later got married in 1963.
