Amar Ramasar is an American ballet dancer currently working as a Principal Dancer at the New York City Ballet (NYCB). He joined the NYCB in July 2001 as a member of the corps de ballet and was promoted to soloist in March 2006. In October 2006, he was promoted to Principal Dancer.
Honoring his talents, he has been awarded several times, including the Mae L. Wien Award for Outstanding Promise in 2000 and the Bessie Award for Outstanding Performer in 2015.

His father, Kumar, is of Trinidadian-Indian ancestry, whereas his mother is from Puerto Rico. His father was a former Marine and also worked as a computer technician, and his mother worked as a nurse. He has a sister named Veda Ramasar.

In 1993, he studied ballet dance at School of American Ballet (SAB), the official school of New York City Ballet. Later he continued his ballet training at the American Ballet Theatre Summer Program and The Rock School of Pennsylvania Ballet.

Amar Ramasar is currently in a relationship with Alexa Maxwell. The pair have been dating since 2015.

Before Alexa, Ramasar reportedly had a wedding plan for October 2011 with his then-girlfriend, Elysia Dawn Fridkin. Elysia was attending Columbia University and was artistic director of Columbia Ballet Collaborative back then and was a former dancer with Complexions Contemporary Ballet.
Girlfriend
Amar's girlfriend, Alexa, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She began her dance training at the age of four and studied at various institutions, including Deanne’s Dance Studio, Minnesota Dance Theatre, and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. Currently, she is a member of corps de ballet at New York City Ballet since November 2013.
Lawsuit
In September 2018, a lawsuit was filed by Alexandra Waterbury against Amar Ramasar and the other two male dancers accusing them of sharing sexually explicit photos of her and another female dancer without their consent.
According to the lawsuit, Alexandra accused her former boyfriend, Chase Finley, of sending sexually explicit photos of her to Amar, and Amar then sent his girlfriend, Alexa Maxwell’s photo to Chase.

All the accused men, along with Amar, were fired from the New York City Ballet in September 2018. However, he was reinstated in April 2019 following an arbiter from the American Guild of Musical Artists.
This case became celebrated nationwide and was followed mainly on the internet too. On 31st January 2020, a group of demonstrators protested outside the Broadway Theatre’s West Side Story in which Amar was a cast member. The demonstrators were calling for the dismissal of him.
However, talking to the New York Times, Amar’s girlfriend, Alexa, said that he had expressed his regret over the situation and that she had forgiven him. She said,
“I am not a victim in this, He apologized time and time again, and I think that it’s my choice as a woman to forgive him.”
