Ncuti Gatwa is a Scottish-Rwandan actor, who achieved overnight limelight with the Netflix series ‘Sex Education’ (since 2019). Previously, he had worked in only two mini-series, which includes him playing the character of Dougie in ‘Stonemouth’ (2015) and a male customer in ‘Bob Servant’ (2014). Likewise, he had also worked as Timidius in the movie ‘Horrible Histories: The Movie - Rotten Romans’ (2019).
Now, Ncuti is set to appear in the upcoming romance-drama movie ‘Last Letter from Your Lover’ alongside Joe Alwyn and Felicity Jones.

In the series, Ncuti plays the role of Eric Effiong, who happens to be gay and the best friend of Otis. As the series progresses, he gathers confidence about his sexuality and starts loving his skin. He performs in the series along with Mimi Keene, Aimee Lou, and Gillian Anderson.
Before Fame
Ncuti Gatwa moved to London from Scotland in the hope of pursuing a career in acting at the age of 21. In London, he worked and trained at Globe Theatre and Kneehigh Theatre company. But his financial state was so bad that he could not afford to rent home and live. Hence, he spent his days ‘homeless’ shifting from one friends’ home to another’s for shelter. While speaking to The Big Issue magazine, he said,
“...for five months before Sex Education, I was couch-surfing among all my friends. I didn’t have a home. I was homeless.”
Additionally, he used to borrow money from his friends so that he could go to the auditions.

Now, after he made it to the series ‘Sex Education’ and received so much of love and appreciation, he remembers his ‘before the series’ days as difficult yet motivating—undoubtedly, only those challenges and difficulties made him reach such height of his career.
