Courtney also tweeted about her husband being Ghanian and his last name being a Nigerian word.

After marriage, Courtney adopted her husband's last name and might have relished her married life. For some years, she flaunted her married life on her Twitter account, mentioning her husband.

Surprisingly, on 31st August 2016, Courtney mentioned her husband as her ex-husband. Without letting the outer world know anything about their married life, the couple secretly got divorced.

However, the decision on being separate is only their decision, so, everyone should respect and support the decision.

Courtney was born on 4th May 1977 to her parents in Westport, Connecticut, USA.

She grew up with her parents and older brother, Herb Kemp, and is very close with her family members. When she lost her beloved father Herbert Kemp Jr. in the year 2011, Courtney was shattered and heartbroken. 

Courtney dedicated the first episode of the series, 'Power' to her beloved father. During an interview with yahoo.com, she shared some story about her late father.

Her father, who was a dashing man standing at a height of 6 feet 3 inches (1.90 meters), was born into an impoverished family and had no money. Her father and his sister used to dance on the streets for money. 

Later, Courtney's father moved to North to work at General Motors and also became the first black man to graduate from Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business.

Eventually, her father grew his career, giving every facility to his children, which he did not receive.

Moving back to Courtney, she holds American nationality and embraces African-American ethnicity.

As for her education, she completed her high school from Staples High School, henceforth, receiving her bachelor's degree from Brown University. She has also earned her Master's in English from Columbia University.
