When he reached the age of seven, Tony started to go to Albuquerque and Florida with his mother. But, little did he knew the reason behind those trips. His father used to smuggle drugs and marijuana, and to collect the money from them (clients); his mother used to go to Albuquerque and Florida.
Because of his parents' involvement in drugs, Tony also became addicted to drugs. As time passed, there rose problems between the families, and to avoid those conflicts, Ann left Anthony and took Tony to Maryland.

Tony Dokoupil is married to a fellow news personality plus producer, Katy Tur.
They first met each other in a make-up room while he was working at MSNBC. Later, they fell in love and initiated their dating relationship. Later, Tony and Katy shared the wedding vows on 27 October 2017. He and his wife, Katy, eloped to Utah for their marriage. They had a nondenominational ceremony in the middle of the desert of Utah.
After nearly two years of marriage, on 13 April 2019, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Theodore "Teddy" Dokoupil.

Career
Tony Dokoupil began his career in 2004 as a writer in the Periscope section of Newsweek Magazine–he left the job in 2006. After that, he worked as a Senior Writer at Newsweek & The Daily Beast from June 2007 to June 2013. Later on, he joined Random House as an author and worked there from 2009 to 2014.
Also, he served for NBC News (from June 2013-July 2015) and MSNBC (July 2015-July 2016).
