The Canadian journalist Sophie Lui is widely known as an anchor at Global BC. Besides creating a brilliant career in journalism, Lui has also established herself as a recognized actress in the entertainment business.
But no matter how packed her schedule is, she always prioritizes spending quality time with her boyfriend Phillip Mayer, whom she has been dating for several years now.
Who Is Sophie Lui’s Boyfriend?
Lui, who unhesitantly expresses her love life through her social handles, has been dating her partner Phillip Mayer for over five years. Phillip first appeared on Lui’s Instagram on July 12, 2015. However, the post does not reveal that the couple was dating at the time or not, but they surely were in close contact with each other.
Later, Lui again uploaded a picture of Phillip taken at Ancora Waterfront Dining and Patio, where they seemed to have enjoyed their time together. And, she wrote, “This is how we do Sundays.” Judging the post, we can assume that the two were already in a relationship in 2016.
The couple’s love life is still going strong as they frequently mention one another on their respective social handles and never miss out on celebrating any special occasions together. However, though the two could not meet physically, they made sure to celebrate birthdays and Christmas virtually because of the pandemic.
Sharing her Christmas celebration of 2020, Lui uploaded a picture of her laptop screen with Phillip and her family on the other side, all connected via zoom.
Now talking about her partner, he is a regional vice president and managing director at Rosewood Sand Hill in California. Moreover, Phillip is a divorced man with three kids, Alina, Cyrus, and Darius, from his first marriage. However, his first wife is unknown.
Lui is also closely bonded with Phillip’s children and is often seen together. For example, she shared a group picture with Philip, Alina, and Darius from the charity event they attended in 2019.
Besides witnessing such a close bond between Lui and Phillip, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume Phillip might fill in the position of Lui’s husband in the future.
More About Lui’s Family and Personal Life
Born in 1975, the Global BC anchor has reached the age of 46. The Vancouver native embraces Asian ethnicity and holds Canadian nationality.
Coincidently enough, her father’s name also happens to be Phillip. However, Lui’s mother remarried, and she was co-parented by her mother and step-father, Jeff, who already passed away.
In memory of her step-father, she took to ‘gram to share her heartfelt words on his demise on October 31, 2020. The caption she paired with his picture surely tells how close she was with Jeff. She wrote,
Jeff didn’t become part of my life until I was about six years old, but when he arrived - we became a family. On paper, he was my ‘stepdad,’ but in life - he was so much more than that.
Lui’s Excelling Career
Lui was passionate about news from an early age. With a dream to become a journalist, she pursued her education from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in 1993 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Radio in 1995.
After her graduation, she joined CFAX Radio in Victoria in 1996 as a News Reporter and Anchor and served for three years. Then she went to CHEK-TV and worked as a reporter and anchor until 2002.
After that, Sophie worked for various radio stations like CKNW, CKIQ in Kelowna and finally joined her current news station, Global BC as an anchor.
Along with continuing her profession in media, she also worked as an actress appearing in TV series like Smallville, The Company You Keep, Power Rangers, and many more. Gradually, she began to appear in several movies and TV shows, establishing herself in the entertainment industry.
