Lori Stokes celebrates her birthday on 16th September of every year. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she is the daughter of father Louis Stokes and mother, Jay Francis.
Her father, Louis, served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946 during World War II in a segregated unit where he encountered racism. Upon returning, he went to college on the G.I. Bill and studied law.
After practicing law since 1953, Louis got elected to the House of Representatives in 1968 from Cleveland’s East Side, becoming Ohio’s first black member of Congress. During his 15-term tenure from 1968 to 1999 as a representative from the Democratic Party, he became the celebrated personality for his astounding works and achievements.

Lori’s father has two children from his previous relationship and two from her mother, Jay. He died on 18th August 2015 at the age of 90 due to lung and brain cancer.
One of her half-sisters Angela Stokes had served as a Cleveland Municipal Court Judge from 1995 to 2015, whereas another half-sister Shelly Stokes works as a preservationist, author, and public relations manager at Howard University. Her brother, Chuck, is also a journalist.
