Basketball coach Pokey Chatman found a connection with sports at a very young age. She used to play as point guard scoring the first 3 point shot during her high school.
In 1991, following her short-lived basketball career, Pokey decided to pursue a coaching career. She started to work as an assistant coach until 1993, and later she was promoted to associate head coach.
Just then, she got the chance to be an interim coach when Sue Gunter took a medical leave. Pokey coached Tigers which became the first final four in school history. But, the credit for their victory was given to Sue.

Nevertheless, Pokey managed to name herself as the fourth head coach in school history. She engaged herself into the LSU Hall of Fame for 18 years and earned an immense salary of $400,000 that added to her net worth.
On 1 April 2015, Pokey returned to Hahnville High School from where she started her basketball career. There, she gave encouraging advice to the students to heighten their basketball careers.
Pokey subsequently became a part of coaching teams that led her to win numerous awards from the Black Coaches Association and USBWA. She was even named as the Russell/WBCA National Coach Of The Year in 2005.

On 7 March 2007, Pokey resigned from the position of the head coach after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a former player. Carla Berry, the assistant coach of the Lady Tigers, reported to Louisiana State University about the sexual relationship of Pokey with the former player. The accusation was settled in court between Pokey and LSU for $160,000.
But the scandal did not stop her from achieving her goal. Pokey rebounded to her coaching career with The Chicago Sky. Talking about her job, she opened up about being a lesbian during an interview with The Seattle Time on 1 July 2014 as she said,
I am (a lesbian). I don’t ever talk about my personal Life, but I don’t ever try to hide it either
Apart from that, there is no information about her having a girlfriend. She has also never talked about being married. She prefers to keep her private life behind the curtains.
