American former basketball player Elgin Baylor is regarded as one of the game's greatest forwards.
He was born on 16 September 1934. In his family, he had two brothers, Sal and Kermit, who played basketball. Elgin also followed his brothers' footstep and entered in the field of basketball.
For his education, Elgin, now age 84, went to school on scholarships. During his high school, he became three times All-City player. However, due to poor academic score, he dropped out of school and began working in a furniture store.
Later, Elgin's friend arranged a scholarship at the College of Idaho where he played basketball and football. But after one season, the college dismissed the head basketball coach and restricted the scholarship.
Even though Elgin did not get proper education, he never left his interest in basketball.

Elgin began his career as a basketball player from his school days. In 1958, he started at Seattle University, guiding the team to the National Collegiate Athletic Association championships tournament.

Then, he was drafted by the Minneapolis Lakers in the 14th round of the 1956 NBA Draft. Lakers even convinced him to skip a senior year to join the pro ranks.
Because of Elgin's superb athletic talents, he was seen as the player who could save the franchise. In fact, there was even a time when the Minneapolis Lakers owner opened up about how Elgin had saved them from going bankrupt in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
In his career, Elgin has not only gained popularity but also worthy awards. He received the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. And 1962, he scored 61 points in game 5 of the NBA finals record.
Since Elgin entered into the field, he has never looked back. Finally, after building his career, due to the nagging knee problems, he retired from the game in 1971.
After Elgin's retirement, he was hired as an assistant coach following the position of a head coach.
As of now, he is an author and recently released his book, Hang Time: My Life in Basketball. Throughout his career, Elgin has not only gained popularity but also made himself financially stable. In today's context, he might be enjoying his net worth in a million or more.

Elgin is happily married to his wife, Elaine Cummingham. He got hitched with Elaine on 17 September 1977. Elgin and Elaine even share one kid.

Previously, Elgin was married to Barbara, but their marriage was annulled in 1955. Then, Elgin got married to Ruby Saunder on 22 June 1958. Elgin has two kids with Ruby. It was into sixteen years into his married life with Ruby when things fell apart, following their divorce in 1974.

Moreover, as of now, Elgin has stayed away from the media. Due to his lack of presence, people even speculated him to be dead. But as he has recently released his book, rumors of his death seem to be false.
