John Sykes is an American entertainment executive and co-founder of VH1 and MTV Cable networks. He is also the CEO of Infinity Broadcasting (now CBS Radio), Exec Vice President, Acquisitions for EMI Music Publishing.

John started his career as a promotion and artist relations manager in CBS Records (Sony Music Entertainment). In October 1980, John was hired by Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment Company (WASEC) as a part of the developing team. WAESC launched MTV in 1981 where John worked as the Director of Promotion and Artist Relations. He helped create and co-produce MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs); his contributions eventually got him promoted as the Vice-President of Programming and Productions, overseeing on-air promotion, all studio operations, and long-form content on the network.
In July 1986, John left MTV and got a position as a film talent agent at Creative Artists Agent (CAA), working with artists like Michael Jackson. After that, John became the President of Champion entertainment, Chrysalis Record and EMI Music. He soon returned to MTV as the president of VH1 Cable TV. During his eight years there, he made tremendous contributions like rebranding VH1 by creating long-form franchises like VH1’s VH1 Storytellers, VH1 Behind the Music and Pop-Up Video.

John even worked at The Viacom and joined the Shazam Board of Directors in 2010. He was named iHeartMedia’s President, where he became responsible for developing new businesses for the company across a range of media, including digital video platform, broadcast television, and live events. John is also the co-executive producer for the iHeartRadio Country Festival, the iHeartRadio Music Awards, and iHeartRadio Jingle Ball on the CW which airs on Turner Broadcasting.

John is also very active as the board member for the Robin Hood Foundation, an organization that has raised over $1 billion to help poor and needy. In October 2001, following the attacks of the World Trade Center, John along with Harvey Weinstein and Cablevision’s CEO Jim Dolan co-produced The Concert for New York City. They raised over $50 million for Robin Hood Foundation which provided all the money to the families of the victims of 9/11 attacks.
