Tracee Ellis Ross is an American comedian, actress, producer, model and a television host. She was born October 29, 1972, in Los Angeles, California, United States. Ross is the daughter of Motown singer and actress Diana Ross, and her father is a music business manager named Robert Ellis Silberstein. Her half-brother Evan Ross is also an actor and musician.
Her father is Jewish-American, and her mother is African-American, so she has a multiracial ethnicity. They got divorced when she was young. Ross attended Riverdale Country School in the Bronx and the Institut Le Rosey which is in Switzerland. She completed her graduation from Brown University in 1994 with a degree in theater. She appeared in different plays there. She also did modeling in her teens.
Ross began her career acting in variety series and different independent films. She also hosted the pop-culture magazine named `The dish` on Lifetime TV magazine. She debuted in big screen on 1996, where she played a Jewish/African-American woman in the independent feature film called Far Harbor.

She returned to television after few movies playing Dr. Carla Reed on the BET sitcom Reed Between the Lines for which she received her third NAACP Image Award. Ross began starring as Dr. Rainbow Johnson in the ABC comedy series Blackish in 2014. The role got her into three more NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. In 2017 she won a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in Television series- musical or comedy.
