Marcia finished her schooling from the Ancaster High School and graduated from there in the year 1989. After that McMillan attended the University of Western Ontario and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from there.
She also went to the Graduate School of Journalism of the Ryerson’s University and obtained a graduate degree in the field of journalism.

McMillan began her career by working as a journalist and as a reporter in the MCTV which situated in Sudbury, Ontario. After she had finished working there, she worked next for the MCTV of North Bay in Ontario as a reporter.

In her career, Marcia has covered a wide range of breaking news and major events including most recently the Toronto Mayor Rob Ford scandal, the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, and the capture of the Boston Marathon bomber.
In 2012 she had a health scare when she was diagnosed with "a lot of blood clots in both lungs." She is fine now.
