Ellen McNamara was born on September 8, 1982, to Bob McNamara. Ellen is a Chicago native who eventually grew up in places like Boulder, CO, and Dallas. Ellen's father, Bob, is a retired CBS News Correspondent.
McNamara was an athlete during her college days; she loved playing soccer in the Big 12; she was an active runner who completed numerous marathons like the five consecutive Boston Marathons. Ellen had little interest in news reporting in her early days. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in political science and a major in Spanish.

Moving forward with her career, Ellen started serving as a Multimedia journalist for WFTS-TV. She worked at WFTS-TV for three years and joined KSTP 5 Eyewitness News as a reporter.
