She got her education in Holroyd High school. Then she enrolled at Sydney University and in 1985, she studied English, German, psychology, and legal institutions two months before leaving the university.
She then worked at a restaurant in Surry Hills and became trainee manager at Kmart, Merrylands. Then she applied for communications course in Mitchell College in Bathurst. She not only studied there but also got a scholarship and majored in politics.
She worked as a broadcaster during her studies with the on-campus community radio station 2MCE-FM.
