Carlos Amezcua was born on 29th August 1953 as Carlos Rafael Amezcua, in San Diego, California.

Carlos, now 66 years old, was involved in community works and church activities from a young age.
At the age of 12, he was involved with the LDS sponsored Boy Scout troop. Later, he attended Brigham Young University with some of his LDS friends.
There, he studied broadcasting and graduated with a degree in 1975.
During his years at the university, he had served two years from 1973 to 1975 in social works to the indigenous people of Guatemala and El Salvador.
From there, his interest in helping people and making them aware grew and decided to engage in journalism.
He did his first job as a journalist for the Salt Lake City area KSL-TV. Then, he joined as KTLA TV in Los Angeles as a co-anchor in 1991 and worked there for sixteen years.
