As a child, Sonequa Martin-Green initially aimed to become a psychologist. However, she decided to pursue a career in acting when she was in the tenth grade at the age of sixteen. Following her decision, she made her film debut in 2005, playing the role Coco Delight in the short, Not Quite Right.
Three years later, she made her TV debut in 2008, portraying the character of Kiana Richmond in NBC's TV show, Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then in 2009, she played her first recurring role as Kanessa Jones in the TV series, Army Wives. The same year, she also portrayed her first adult role in the TV show, The Good Wife as Courtney Well.
