When political violence, during the Ethiopian Civil War, broke out in the country, Ruth and her mother moved to Limerick, Ireland—at that time, she was four years old. They waited for their father to join them in Ireland, but in 1988, they got the news of their father’s demise in a car accident in Addis Ababa.
Thereafter, raised by her single mother, Ruth completed her secondary school education in Limerick, Ireland, and later graduated from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, with a B.A. in Acting Studies.
