Dolours Price was born in Belfast on 21st June 1951 in a family involved in Irish republican politics. Her father, Albert, was one of the founding members of the Irish Republican Army (IRA). She has two sisters; Marian and Clare, and two brothers; Sean and Dino.
While being trained to be a teacher after graduating from college, she was enlisted in the IRA along with her sister, Marian Price, in the early 1970s.
She was a convicted IRA car bomber, and she, along with her sister, was involved in a bombing attack on London’s famous Old Bailey Court in 1973 in which one person died, and more than 200 people were injured.
After the bombing, she was caught and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1973 but was released on compassionate grounds in 1980.
After being released, she remained politically active, even claiming that her orders had come from the Sinn Fein party leader and peace negotiator, Gerry Adams.
Then in 2013, at the age of 62, she was found dead at her home on St. Margaret’s Road in Malahide. Her funeral held in Milltown Cemetery, Belfast, was attended by 500 mourners along with her sons and ex-husband, Stephen.
