Richard is a graduate of Duke University. Since he was interested in acting, he also attended acting classes in different places. He attended Western Reserve Academy (W.R.A.) and graduated in 1983.
Then, he studied acting at Michael Chekhov Studio under Jim Boerlin and Beatrice Straight in New York. He also studied at The Mountview Theatre School and the School for the Science of Acting in London under a famous acting teacher, Sam Kogan.
Richard made his acting debut playing the character of Judge Danforth in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible while he was studying at W.R.A. in 1982.
However, he became actively involved in acting career only after performing the role of a reporter in the British comedy series, Jeeves and Wooster, in 1993.
