Michele began working at CBS Sports in 1994, where she worked as a reporter and host for the CBS Television Network's anthology show, CBS Sports Spectacular.

While working at CBS, she made history when she became the first woman to call television play-by-play of an NCAA tournament game for which she was honored with Gracie Award for Outstanding Achievement by an Individual On-Air TV Personality. 

After five years, she left CBS to join ESPN where her profile rose steadily through a variety of on-air roles. During her time at ESPN, she served as a sideline reporter on NBA broadcasts, co-hosted Mike Tirico's ESPN Radio show and also an occasional guest host on Pardon the Interruption

Eventually, after all her hard work, she landed on NBC Sports as the network's sideline reporter.

While opening up about her family, she mentioned when she was in her mother's womb she kicked so hard that her parents Orlando Tafoya and Wilma expected her to be a boy. They decided to name the baby Michael John, but when she was born as a girl, her parents kept her name, Michele Joan. 

Sadly, her father passed away on 20 October 2011 due to a stroke. His funeral took place at American Martyrs Church, 624 15th Street, Manhattan Beach, CA, 90266, where all family members were present.
